DAN RUSSELL | FEEL THE ECHOES

1. Feel the Echoes

You say, “I don’t know anymore,” I say, “You’re right.”
You say, “I don’t care anymore.” Together we must fight.

When the sun comes up again
And we feel it warm our skin
Let’s do our best not to pretend
Till we meet our end

There’s no love like those younger days
We feel the echoes still today
From some place way beyond the stars
We feel the echoes
Feel the echoes

You say you feel so all alone,
Let me hold you tonight.
Take my hand, we’ll make it through
Lockstep for this life

There’s no love like those younger days
We feel the echoes still today
From some place way beyond the stars
We feel the echoes
Feel the echoes

When the sun comes up again
And we feel it warm our skin
Let’s do our best not to pretend
Till we meet our end

There’s no love like those younger days
We feel the echoes still today
From some place way beyond the stars
We feel the echoes
Feel the echoes

2. Is It Love

In the moonlight, in your lover’s voice
The silhouette unfolds,
As the ground grows cold
You hear the same thing,
You fear the same thing

In the Autumn wind when dry colors burn
The skeletons dance beneath the dark skyline

Is it love you’re looking for

In the thunder clouds,
Mountains of rain to fall
In the twisting wind you hear the name that’s called

You hear the same thing,
You fear the same thing

Is it love you’re looking for
Is it love, love, love
Love you’re looking for

In a child’s eyes
In every lover’s voice
In a baby’s cry
We’ve really got no choice
We’ve really got no choice

Is it love you’re looking for Is it love, love, love
Love you’re looking for

It’s in my child’s eyes
It’s in my mother’s voice
And when I take your hand
We’ve really got no choice

Is it love you’re looking for? Is it love, love, love
Love you’re looking for

3. I Believe

I believe there is a reason
What it is I’m not so sure
I hear it like an echo
Most times it leaves me cold

I don’t know why I believe

I’ve been looking for my truth
Been looking all my life
Never a day goes by
Without some kind of fight

I don’t know why I believe
I don’t know why I believe
If you go on and leave me with my shadows of doubt
And if my hope deceives me then there’s no way out

Where’s my blessed assurance?
Where’s my solid rock?
If it’s all just in my head
What’s the difference if I give up?
Where’s my blessed assurance?
Where’s my solid rock?
Is it fading in my memory?
Does it matter if I stop?

I don’t know why I believe
I don’t know why I believe

If you go on and leave me with my shadows of doubt
And if my hope deceives me then there’s no way out

I don’t know why I believe
I don’t know why I believe
I believe
I believe

I don’t know why

4. Before The Guns

Not so idle threats take place
Behind those steel doors Intimidation to escalation,
The likelihood of a holy war

Politicians getting nervous, TV ratings soar
Any day now, history repeats
its worst mistake

Before the guns we must fight,
Convince ourselves it’s not right
Before the guns we must claim,
The call to love and not to blame
The call to love and not to blame,

Before the guns Before the guns,
Before the guns we must fight
Before the guns, Before the guns, it’s not right

The echoes of the mothers
Who lost their sons and daughters
All the speeches and new monuments
Pay tribute to their slaughter

And in the end it’s all the same we’ve got denial and we act real brave
We bow our heads to amazing grace
The president says God bless this place

Before the guns we must fight,
Convince ourselves it’s not right
Before the guns we must claim,
The call to love and not to blame
The call to love and not to blame,

Before the guns Before the guns,
Before the guns we must fight
Before the guns, Before the guns, it’s not right

Will the earth hold up,
Will the sea turn red with blood
Will the air grow bitter from a single blast

Not so idle threats take place behind those steel doors
Intimidation to escalation, the likelihood of a bloody war
Politicians eat their words, TV ratings soar
Any day now, any day now history repeats it’s worst mistake

History repeats it’s worst mistake

Before the guns we must fight,
Convince ourselves it’s not right
Before the guns we must claim,
The call to love and not to blame
The call to love and not to blame,

Before the guns Before the guns,
Before the guns we must fight
Before the guns, Before the guns, it’s not right

5. You Came From Somewhere

You came from somewhere, you came to me
You came from somewhere helped me believe

I went far away where no one could reach me
Sifted through the voices to find one who could teach me
Flattery and spies, confusion and lies
I gave up so many good things,
My reasons to try

You came from somewhere, you came to me
You came from somewhere helped me believe

You know I walked in circles,
I crossed all my lines
I gave in to temptation, to see if I was alive I saw the beauty grow old and die
I had to surrender my reasons to try

You came from somewhere, you came to me
You came from somewhere helped me believe

I went far away where no one could reach me
Sifted through the voices to nd one who could teach me
I saw the beauty grow old and die
I had to surrender, no reason to try

You came from somewhere, you came to me
You came from somewhere helped me believe

Somewhere, I believe Somewhere, I believe

6. Naive

He has hope for the hopeless in this dying place
He doesn’t do what he’s been told,
When he’s told to look the other way
He gets so close to their hurt,
You know he feels their pain

He has a vision for the future, calls it paradise
He sees the planet healed and whole,
Like from the other side
He won’t deny the evil force,
Says for now it has it’s place
Believes the end will show us all,
Love has won this race

How can he, how can he
How can he believe like that
How can he, how can he
God, he’s so naive

He sees the good in every man no matter what’s passed
He has patience and he understands
He’s so sincere when he holds your broken hand
Looks you in the eyes and give you this smile, like he knows some secret plan

How can he, how can he
How can he believe like that
How can he, how can he
God, he’s so naive

How can he believe like that, How can he believe

He holds out for the liars,
He knows what they mean
He shares his food with the helpless,
He likes the way they eat
He says this place ain’t so bad,
Loves the way we all laugh
Opens his arms oh so wide,
Says if you could see yourselves

How can he believe like that,
How can he believe

He has hope for the hopeless in this dying place
He has a vision for the future, calls it paradise
He sees the good in every man,
No matter how bad
He holds out for the liars,
He knows what we mean

How can he believe like that?
How can he believe

7. All I Want

It could be love, it could be hate
What’s the difference if all you feel is pain
It could be hope, might be a lie
A broken heart makes you wanna die

It could be rain coming down cold as ice
It’s been like this for so many nights
To go to sleep you’ve got to calm your mind
And drift away somewhere else in time
Is there really anywhere else in time

All I want, all I want
All I want is you

We pray for peace and march proud into war
Driven by fear we can’t seem to control
Afraid to love afraid to yield
What is this demon we all conceal

There is no truce our nature is to doubt
Is our heart cursed to live without?
But yet this spark that reminds us all
Our soul responds to some distant call
Does anyone hear that distant call?

All I want, all I want
All I want is you

Somebody told me something that must have made me this way
Said life is just a circle from birth to your grave

Feared I might believe that,
Sensed it from time to time
You kept my soul from breaking,
From losing my mind

All I want, all I want
All I want is you
You’re all I want
You’re all I want
All I want is you

8. Tomorrow Tonight

Will I sneak around for the rest of my life
Lie to you and lie to myself
What’s the matter with the cards I hold
I’m so scared if the truth be known

Maybe tomorrow, maybe tonight
There’ll be no more sorrow,
There’ll be no more fright

All I ever wanted was to set my world on fire
I had vision, I had desire
Waited too long, took life for granted
My open doors,
Don’t know why I slammed them

Maybe tomorrow, maybe tonight There’ll be no more sorrow, There’ll be no more fright

We can walk on water, we can touch the stars No one will be faulted,
We can be who we are

Never wanted to go to prison,
I never thought I’d be serving time

I learned some lessons as I grew older,
Guilt and fear are my iron bars
It stands to reason if we all wear out,
So few are certain so many in doubt,
We stay distracted and grow disconnected
Prefer the lies and the truth is rejected

Maybe tomorrow, maybe tonight
There’ll be no more sorrow,
There’ll be no more fright

We can walk on water, we can touch the stars
No one will be faulted, We can be who we are
We can be who we are

Tomorrow Tonight

9. Let You Be Mine

I wanna go where the sun doesn’t burn my skin
I want to go where the water is pure
And I’m welcomed in
Where the words are not lies,
Where my soul can unwind
No promises, no fears to fight

I want to go where my heart won’t shatter and break
I want to go where the love that we give it won’t fade
Where dreams won’t be laughed at,
Every heart can be healed
Where nobody is, nobody’s fool

I could dream about this for the rest of my life
Or just close my eyes and let you be mine

Let you be mine, hold you closely
Your body next to mine, so closely

I wanna to go where the night doesn’t fill us with fear
I wanna go where the hungry are met with food
Where the naive are not raped,
And every human’s embraced
Look you in the eyes, and I find grace

I could dream about this for the rest of my life
Or just close my eyes and let you be mine

Let you be mine, hold you closely
Your body next to mine, so closely

10. You Rescued Me

Only in our inner space can we ever find true grace
All are lost, to be found, we are loved
Drifting through our outer space searching for that one true face
Wandering, then home at last, we are loved

You rescued me,
Broke the curse that covered me

Fear to lose what we don’t have,
Believing even good is bad
Morning sun dissolves the night, we are loved

Washed with tears we cannot help,
Cleanse our hearts inside out
Bring us through with healing grace,
We are loved

You rescued me,
Broke the curse that covered me
If I have any chance,
It’s your love that rescues me
If I have any chance,
It’s your love that rescues me

Only in our inner space can we ever find true grace
All are lost, to be found, we are loved
Everyone a refugee, hoping for delivery
Day by day and night by night, we are loved

If I have any chance,
It’s your love that rescues me
If I have any chance,
It’s your love that rescues me You rescued me,
Broke the curse that covered me If I have any chance,

It’s your love that rescues me
If I have any chance,
It’s your love that rescues me

11. Under The Starlight

I don’t feel the pain like I use to
I don’t seem to care that much anymore I’ve grown blind with time,
I don’t see the crime
I don’t even know what day it is

I remember when I would dance in the starlight
When things got tough there always was enough hope to fight
Do you remember dancing in the starlight
Twirling around, dizzy with love
Singing all night, under the starlight

Now as time goes by it doesn’t matter any less
You can’t steer the ship you’re in you either sink or float in it
You get tired of chasing shadows,
Tired of the promises made
You want to hear something simple
Like your heart is your home and not your grave

I remember when I would dance in the starlight
When things got tough there always was enough hope to fight
Do you remember dancing in the starlight
Twirling around, dizzy with love
Singing all night, under the starlight

I really really miss it
I really really miss it

You would kiss me on the lips and say catch me if you dare
You know we had this courage,
Each day, a beautiful mystery

Do you remember dancing in starlight
When things got tough there always was enough hope to fight
Do you remember dancing in the starlight Do you remember?
We were dancing in the starlight
When things got tough there always was enough hope to fight
Do you remember? Do you remember?

We were dancing in the starlight
Twirling around, dizzy with love
Out of control, crazy in love
Singing all night, under the star light.

12. Don’t Let Us Go

Do you feel the pain I’m feeling
You say you cry these tears with me
Do you hear the words they’re saying
The kind of truth you don’t want to believe

Do you see the things we’re seeing
Tell me, what does it look like to you
Most of this world is constantly bleeding
Hoping and praying that you’ll come through

Oh no, don’t let us fall
Let us fall away
Oh no, don’t let us go, insane

Do you hear my heart beating
Do you feel it pounding in my chest
Who sets these cold winds blowing
Through my bones and through my soul

Oh no, don’t let us fall
Let us fall away
Oh no, don’t let us go
Don’t let us go

Oh no, don’t let us fall
Let us fall away
Oh no, don’t let us go
Don’t let us go, insane

When we start to slip, will you break our fall
We’re always out of control,
How do we hear your call
When we feel alone, will you hold us close
Take away this fear,

And bring us all the way back home

Oh no, don’t let us fall Let us fall away
Oh no, don’t let us go Don’t let us go

When we pray, “Our Father in heaven,”
Please show us that you’re not that far
The dark nights sometimes so endless,
We need new hope, like a shining star
Like a shining star

Like a shining star
